Re: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull:

By the numbers, yes, but they were pretty sweet numbers--and my inner twelve-year-old is squealing in glee. (Also, how stoked am I that they brought Marian back?)

Everyone seems to be slamming poor Indy. I grinned through the entire flick (and I won't talk about the times when there were tears there, too). It's because we just happen to fit right in the notch where we were young enough to want Indy as our dad from Raiders. (By film 2, however, I'd moved out of the dad-phase with Indy and into his house after throwing Willie out, because I was SOOOO better than her, duh). So I loved it too, aging Indy and all. He's still got it, far as I'm concerned.

And yes, Marian so rocked. :)

Yeah, I know what you mean--the thing is, people who just want to go to the movies to have a good time seem to have liked the movie, while people who actually want a Good Movie mostly didn't. (Skewed by people our age who are all INDY :D :D :D, of course.)

I guess I could invoke the specter of 'suspension of disbelief', too; I mean, I know damned well that no one is going to survive even a puny test-sized nuclear explosion by closing himself up in a fridge, lead-lined or not, and I knew it even when it was happening onscreen, but it didn't ruin the movie for me. I just basically went 'Aw, man' and went with it. I suppose one could even argue that Indy survived the nuclear explosion because he'd drunk from the Holy Grail. Right? Right. Fanfic gold.

But mostly, I wanted to have some Big Dumb Fun, and I got it, and life was good. I like cheese!
